Privacy · Updated October 2026The most independently audited VPNs of 2026
The short answer
When a VPN says “no logs,” audits are the receipts. NordVPN leads with six independent no-logs audits (PwC + Deloitte). Proton VPN is the transparency runner-up with five yearly public audits. Everyone else is playing catch-up — and any provider with zero audits shouldn't be trusted with your traffic, no matter how fast it is.

How to read an audit (30-second version)
- Count repetitions, not just existence. One audit in 2019 means little in 2026. Yearly cadence (Proton) or multi-year streaks (NordVPN, PIA) mean a culture of verification.
- Check the auditor. Big Four firms (Deloitte, PwC, KPMG) and established security shops (Cure53, Securitum) carry weight; unknown firms don't.
- Demand public reports. An audit you can't read is marketing. Proton publishes full reports; treat “audited (trust us)” as unaudited.
- Court tests count double. PIA's no-logs claim survived two FBI subpoenas with nothing to hand over. No audit simulates that.
